The Next Big Thing heats up as emcees go live

Last weekend, the Next Big Thing went live from the studios of GHone. The challenge for the week was to tell a story through rap – the story needed to have an intro, body, and a climax. What a challenge that was!

The emcees told stories about themselves, hardships they have experienced, how to succeed in the entertainment industry especially if you are a lady, among others. Other stories like travelling to a strange land and being chased out by rebels, poverty, sugar daddies who are out to spoil our young girls and facebook with lies also came alive. Tee-Phlow’s performance brought tears to the eyes of Okyeame Kwame and commended him for having a strong storyline.

Some emcees had a bad night; it was either the judges did not get the storyline or did not see the link between the first and second stanzas.  Some also lacked storyline and just rapped for the audience. Another emcee that did impressively well was Strongman who told a story of a football match between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the form of a commentary.

On the whole, the Judges were entertained with great storylines, punch lines, good rhyming and timing. Some of the emcees were advised to stick to scripts or face possible eviction for unimpressive performances. Viewers can vote for their favorite emcees by texting their names to short code 1758 as the next show will see two emcees being evicted from the competition.

The next task for the emcees is to come up with political songs as Ghana is drawing close to its elections. If you cannot make it to the studios of Ghone to be part of the live audience, then do not miss the live broadcast on Sunday at 6PM on GH-One and the repeat on Tuesday’s at 9AM
