Dr. Julius Garvey, son of the legendary Marcus Garvey will be attending the 2012 Planet Africa Awards to receive the African legend award in honour of his Father. Marcus Garvey’s philosophies have been part of the social consciousness of the world for decades, even though he passed away in 1940. A political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur and orator, he was an ardent proponent of the Pan-Africanism movements.
Dr. Julius Garvey is continuing the legacy of his father Marcus Garvey. A surgeon by profession, he still combines a busy surgical practice with the community service. He has worked in the department of Corrections in New York concerning rehabilitation of members of the prison population. Following his father’s philosophy of the Diaspora looking back to their motherland, Dr. Garvey built a clinic in Senegal and continues to work with various organizations and leaders in Africa. He was also named Goodwill Ambassador for Senegal by President Wade and has been on medical missions to Jamaica, Haiti and Malawi.
